GSK Breakfast Symposium
Adult Vaccination Across the Lifespan
Why Earlier Prevention Matters
Date: Tuesday 16 June 2026
Start time: Register and breakfast provided from 7.15am. Symposium begins at 7.30am
End time: 8:45am
Venue & location: Marvel stadium, Victory room F, Level 1
Access directions: Gate 9 at Marvel Stadium is located on the Bourke Street side (Harbour side) of the stadium, best accessed via the Bourke Street pedestrian footbridge from Southern Cross Station.
For parking, use Car Park A or B on Bourke Street and follow signs to Gate 9.
Flyer Link: TBA
Event blurb: While adult vaccination discussions often focus on the elderly, emerging evidence suggests that preventable infectious diseases in younger older adults (50–64 years) may result in substantial clinical, economic, and system level impacts that are under recognised in current policy settings. Select real-world examples (including respiratory syncytial virus [RSV] and herpes zoster [HZ]) will be used to illustrate broader and persistent gaps in adult vaccination policy, coverage, and prioritisation.
This session aims to reframe adult vaccination as a strategy to preserve health, independence and system sustainability, by shifting thinking away from reactive, age-based thresholds toward risk-based prevention across the lifespan.
Program Highlights:
The session will reinforce that prioritising prevention earlier in adulthood delivers broader value:
-
Reduces the likelihood of severe disease burden that accelerates decline in people with underlying conditions
-
Mitigates downstream complications that contribute to cardiovascular, neurological, and functional impairment
-
Protects health system capacity by avoiding high-cost hospitalisations in working age and younger older adults
-
Delivers broader societal and economic benefits beyond immediate disease prevention
Target audience: Infectious disease and public health physicians, General practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, Immunisation providers, Government representatives/Department of Health, Primary Health Care Networks
